Shooting
the gargoyles and grotesques of New York City has been an ongoing
project of mine for two years.
I started shooting gargoyles exclusively,
but the array of other figures was too fascinating to exclude. Along
with lions and dragons, there are pelicans, bison, grotesque human
forms, people plying their trades, and many mythical beasts.
They are tucked away in seemingly
every niche of the city. The stories behind these unique works of
art are probably as varied as the artwork itself.
Some
are only visible from high elevations, but many of these surprising
architectural gems are on view for anyone who slows down and glances
upward. |
